Samsung Became the Highest Producer in the Growth of Smartphone

A recent report published by IDC, the research firm, shows that the smartphone market grew about 80 percent worldwide during the first quarter of this year 2011. The number of units distributed (shipping) reached 99.6 million in the last three months, up from 55.4 million in the same quarter last year. Nokia is still ranked first with 24.3 percent of smartphone market share with 24.2 million units. This achievement was up from its market share in a business smartphone that only 21.5 percent a year ago.

In the second place there was a shift. Appe who was in second place beyond Reserach In Motion (RIM). Apple managed to distribute 18.7 million units of smartphones that 18.7 market share, up from 8.7 just last year.

RIM is actually an increase in unit volume of smartphones that shipped 13.9 million units, up from 10.6 million units a year ago. However, its market share fell from 19.1 percent the first quarter last year to 14 percent this year.

Samsung became producer of the most enjoyed growth of smartphones. Units distributed by Samsung rose from 2.4 million in the first quarter of 2010 to 10.8 million in the first quarter 2011 so that it can surpass HTC. This year HTC actually also experienced growth in the number of smartphone units released to the market, but lost to Samsung because it is only from 2.7 million to 8.9 million.

Among manufacturers, only three companies that experienced growth well above average. Samsung's highest with 350 percent growth, HTC 229.6 percent, 114.4 percent and Apple. RIM only grew 31.1 percent and Nokia 12.6 percent (kompas.com).

In the future, flexible screen like paper so may be used in electronic devices not only for the computer screen, a tablet, but can also for mobile phones and smartphones. Flexible display technology for mobile phones being developed Human Media Lab (HML), a multidisciplinary science lab at Queen's University in Canada.

The researchers at the HML has made a prototype cell phone called the flexible screen PaperPhone and given the name "iPhone flexible". These devices like smartphones can store contacts names, play music, and making phone calls. The screen is 9.5 inches using e-Ink.

HML trying to develop navigation technology that empowers customs. In the prototype, the researchers HML do commands to the menus on the mobile screen is not touch-screen technology but by bending the tip of the screen. They design the hardware and software sensors to recognize changes in the form of a bent screen.


"This is the future. Everything will look and feel like this in the next five years," said Roel Vertegaal, director of HML who create these technologies on his website. He will show off prototypes at the conference Human Computer Interaction or CHI 2011, held in Vancouver, Canada, May 10, 2011 (kompas.com).

Latest BlackBerry Bold, QWERTY and Touch Screen

Waterloo - Coming to the BlackBerry World Conference held in Orlando, Florida, USA, 3-5 May 2011, Research In Motion (RIM) announced a new smartphone models, Bold 9900 and 9930. Both models are identical for different networks. Model 9900 for GSM, while the 9930 for CDMA. It looked like any other Bold series. However, not only using the QWERTY keypad, the BlackBerry is equipped with touch screen.

BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 is also the first smartphone that will use the operating system "BlackBerry 7". The shape is similar to the Bold series in general, but is thinner because it is only 10.5 mm thick or the thinnest BlackBerry smartphone model so far.

Xperia Mini and Xperia Mini Pro Tightening Gingerbread Market Competition

Sony Ericsson update the Xperia series with two new models, the Xperia Mini and Xperia Mini Pro, on Friday (6 / 5) today. Both use Qualcomm Snapdragon processor speed 1 GHz with operating system Android 2.3 aka  Gingerbread. Sony Ericsson was first Xperia phone presents Gingerbread with Arc.
