In the second place there was a shift. Appe who was in second place beyond Reserach In Motion (RIM). Apple managed to distribute 18.7 million units of smartphones that 18.7 market share, up from 8.7 just last year.
RIM is actually an increase in unit volume of smartphones that shipped 13.9 million units, up from 10.6 million units a year ago. However, its market share fell from 19.1 percent the first quarter last year to 14 percent this year.
Samsung became producer of the most enjoyed growth of smartphones. Units distributed by Samsung rose from 2.4 million in the first quarter of 2010 to 10.8 million in the first quarter 2011 so that it can surpass HTC. This year HTC actually also experienced growth in the number of smartphone units released to the market, but lost to Samsung because it is only from 2.7 million to 8.9 million.
Among manufacturers, only three companies that experienced growth well above average. Samsung's highest with 350 percent growth, HTC 229.6 percent, 114.4 percent and Apple. RIM only grew 31.1 percent and Nokia 12.6 percent (kompas.com).
